Buenos Aires, December 19 (NA) – Drug trafficker Luis Fernando Fernández Albin was extradited to Uruguay after being arrested in Argentina on an international arrest warrant issued by Interpol.

According to police sources reported to the Argentine News Agency (NA), the request had been made by the Prosecutor's Office for Narcotics Offenses of the First Turn of Montevideo as part of a case for the organization of drug trafficking, smuggling, and other crimes.

Fernández Albin was accused in Uruguay of planning an armed attack against prosecutor Mónica Ferrero, as well as of being part of a narco-criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking.

The Uruguayan branch of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) alerted to the presence of the drug trafficker in Argentina, and according to their reports, Fernández Albin had entered the country on June 27 of this year and was staying in an apartment located in the Flores neighborhood, near the intersection of Rivadavia Avenue and Pumacahua Street.

Based on a thorough investigation that confirmed the drug trafficker lived at that address, a discreet surveillance operation was arranged, which allowed federal officers to arrest Fernández Albin in a public place on November 20.

After his arrest, the drug trafficker was placed at the disposal of the Justice, and this Friday, he was transferred to Uruguay at San Fernando Airport, aboard a Uruguayan Air Force aircraft.
